The Human Spirit — A little extra Spirit, so mana and health come back a bit faster between fights.
Mace Specialization — Better skill with maces, which suits a Paladin carrying a mace and shield.
Sword Specialization — The same for swords, and the Protector's Sword and Shadowfang are both swords.
Perception — Shows you stealthed Rogues and Druids nearby, which matters because you have no way to close the gap.
Diplomacy — Reputation gains come quicker, and several best-in-slot pieces sit behind reputation.
Stoneform — Clears bleeds, poisons and diseases and adds armor for a few seconds; the answer to Rogues and Hunters.
Frost Resistance — Cuts damage from Frost Mages and Hunter traps.
Find Treasure — Shows nearby treasure on the minimap; harmless extra.
Bombs, stuns and a trinket that undoes Mage polymorphs make Engineering the one profession that every Paladin here wants, and its head pieces fill a slot that is otherwise hard to fill.
Pairs with Engineering: you dig the metal you build with and sell the leftover bars.
Useful for putting your own enchants on, and for disenchanting gear for materials, if your main character pays for it.
None of them leads to a piece in the best-in-slot lists at this level.
First Aid — Mageweave bandages heal without costing mana; Heavy Runecloth ones can be used but not made at this level.
Cooking — Curiously Tasty Omelet is the Well Fed food to have; a cooking trainer in Stormwind teaches it.
Fishing — The only way to get the Lucky Fishing Hat from the rare fish quest.
Improved Devotion Aura makes the armor you give out larger, Guardian's Favor lengthens Blessing of Freedom and shortens Blessing of Protection's wait, and three points in Improved Blessing of Might make that blessing worth casting. The build most guides recommend.
Five points each in Improved Devotion Aura and Improved Blessing of Might. Simpler, and it strengthens both of the buffs that your group sees every fight.
One battle elixir and one guardian elixir at a time. They vanish when you die.
One potion per fight; they share a cooldown.
A Paladin is the one class that brings protection, healing and crowd-control relief at once. Devotion Aura raises the group's armor, Blessing of Freedom frees a carrier from a root, Blessing of Protection saves the one who is about to die, and Holy Light keeps people on their feet. This guide builds you to help your teammates win fights, not to win them alone.
Armor, Stamina and a shield come first, then the talents that make Devotion Aura and your Blessings stronger. Your own damage is modest by design: you hit for just enough to matter and spend your mana on the people around you.
#showtooltip Holy Light /cast [target=player] Holy Light(Rank 3)
#showtooltip Blessing of Freedom /cast [help] Blessing of Freedom; [target=player] Blessing of Freedom
| Situation | Blessing | Aura |
|---|---|---|
| A melee teammate is carrying the flag | Blessing of Freedom on them | Devotion Aura |
| A caster or healer is in the group | Blessing of Wisdom on them | Devotion Aura |
| Hunters and Warriors in the group | Blessing of Might on them | Devotion Aura |
| A teammate is losing to a Rogue or Warrior | Blessing of Protection on them | Devotion Aura |
| You are fighting alone | Blessing of Might on yourself | Retribution Aura |
Your job is to be within spell range of whoever holds the flag. Pre-cast Freedom if you can see a root coming, and keep a heal ready for the first big hit.
Hammer of Justice first when two enemies reach you, then Blessing of Protection on your weakest friend, then Divine Protection on yourself if you become the target. Lay on Hands is the last resort, because it nearly empties your mana.
